One benefit — maybe the only benefit — svn has over git is that you will have an external copy of the repository, sort of a built-in backup. You can do things that way with git by using a “bare” repository as a master, but it requires a few extra steps.

Otherwise, +1 git no doubt.

Absolutely agreed on the matter of having backup copies of the repository. I do have SVN hosting, and I believe you can check in and out of a SVN repository with git, so that’s something to investigate for certain.

Yeah, git-svn will let you set things up so that when you ‘git push’ to the upstream, it’s actually checking in to a SVN repo — or so sez the documentation; I haven’t actually tried that that yet.
