I wanted to write something about Kathy Sierra’s excellent article, Mosh Pit as Innovation Model. Mainly because it ties into some thoughts that have been knocking around in my poor, battered skull about creativity. Specifically, there was something half-formed bugging me about the economics of production in the world of software and web services, compared to the world of product design and print.
I really do wonder whether strategies that serve one wouldn’t be suicidal in the other, and whether there’s a point where the cost of production causes a kind of phase change, where it no longer makes sense to hoard your ideas.
But I just don’t have the creative juice at the moment to really give it justice, so I’ll just say: go, now. Read it, and follow all the links.
